Norris leads the 2025 Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship by 24 points after winning the São Paulo Grand Prix, crediting his success to ignoring critics and focusing on self-belief.
McLaren’s Lando Norris (X)
Love him or hate him, Lando Norris has been the story of the second half of the 2025 Formula 1 season. With just three races left, the McLaren star sits 24 points clear at the top of the Drivers’ Championship — closer than ever to that long-awaited maiden world title.
So what finally clicked? According to Norris, the breakthrough came when he simply… stopped caring.
Fresh off a dominant win at the São Paulo Grand Prix — a victory that extended his lead over teammate and title rival Oscar Piastri — Norris was asked what had sparked his blistering late-season form.
His answer? Vintage Lando.
“Just ignore everyone who talks crap about you.”
Later pressed to explain, Norris revealed that external noise used to rattle him far more than he let on.
“There are always people who try and bring you down,” he said.
“When you’re on a big stage, there are a lot of voices trying to influence others… even the cheers and the not-cheers, you still hear it. It’s not the nicest thing.”
He admitted that earlier in the year, he was too tuned in to how he was being perceived.
“I cared a lot about people’s perspectives and how I was portrayed in the media. I probably cared too much, even at the beginning of the year. And it was affecting me in not the best ways.”
Now? He’s filtering out the noise and driving like a man liberated.
“Over the last few months, I’ve done well to not let it get to me,” he added.
“That’s one of the things I’ve learned the most: just to be true to yourself, have confidence in yourself, believe in yourself, and speak your mind. So yeah, it’s more just keeping my head down and concentrating on myself.”
The shift has been evident: calmer radio messages, cleaner wheel-to-wheel racing, and a streak of performances that have put him in full control of the title fight.
And for what it’s worth, Norris’ new formula seems to be working rather well so far.
