Kurnool Bus Accident: The bus caught fire after the motor bike with its fuel cap open was dragged underneath the bus.
Video Shows Biker Riding Recklessly Moments Before Crashing Into Andhra Bus
Hours after 20 people lost their lives in the Kurnool bus fire after it collided with a bike, CCTV footage doing the rounds on social media shows that the biker, who is suspected to have caused the bus inferno, was drunk.
The bus caught fire after the motorbike, with its fuel cap open, was dragged underneath the bus.
The video of the biker, who was among the victims, showed him arriving at a petrol pump with a pillion at around 2:20 am. The man riding pillion then walked away from the frame, possibly to find someone to refuel their vehicle as no attendant was seen.
The biker can be clearly seen not able to balance the vehicle. He swerved the vehicle while on the way out from the petrol pump. Watch the video here.
The accident was so grave that most of the victims were charred beyond recognition. Officials called forensic teams to collect DNA samples of the deceased.
The bike driver, Bucchalu Shiva Shankar of B Thandrapadu village of Kurnool district, died on the spot after the bus hit his bike. The ill-fated bus was carrying 44 passengers at the time of the accident.
“The bike was dragged under the bus and the sparks from this resulted in the fire. The bus batteries, presence of flammable furnishings in the bus, and the cargo consisting of cell phones aggravated the fire leading to the tragic event,” Kurnool SP Vikrant Patel said in a statement.
