On Sunday, Bangladesh police had claimed that Faisal Karim Masud and another suspect, Alamgir Sheikh, had fled to India after the December 12 attack. According to senior Dhaka Metropolitan Police officer SN Nazrul Islam, the suspects crossed the Haluaghat border into India and were allegedly received by two Indian citizens, who escorted them into Meghalaya and handed them over to accomplices.
However, BSF chief in Meghalaya, Inspector General O P Opadhyay, denied these claims. “There is no evidence to suggest that any individual crossed the international border from the Haluaghat sector into Meghalaya. The BSF has neither detected nor received any report of such an incident,” he said.
Osman Hadi, 32, was shot in the head during an election campaign in Dhaka on December 12. He was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment but succumbed to his injuries on December 18.
Hadi was a spokesperson of Inquilab Moncho and a prominent youth leader during the July-August 2024 mass street protests that led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government. He was also a parliamentary candidate for the upcoming February 12 elections.
