Tuesday was the last day of nominations for the first phase of Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Candidates filed nominations in the presence of Union Minister Jitendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina.
The first phase of voting will be held in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18. The last date for filing nomination papers was August 27. According to the Election Commission, 279 candidates have filed their nomination papers in 24 assembly constituencies of seven districts.
A total of 72 candidates have filed their nominations in Anantnag district, followed by 55 in Pulwama district, 41 in Doda district, 32 in Kishtwar district, 28 in Shopian district, 28 in Kulgam district, while 23 candidates have filed their nominations in Ramban district.
Over 23.27 lakh people will cast their votes in the first phase of elections. Out of which 11.76 lakh are male voters and 11.51 lakh are female voters, along with 60 third gender voters.
