Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a three-day visit, describing it as her “very first” trip to India and reaffirming Japan’s commitment to deepening strategic ties with New Delhi.
Soon after landing in the national capital, Takaichi shared a post on X, saying she looked forward to holding talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on key global and bilateral issues. She also shared photographs after arriving in New Delhi.
“I have arrived in Delhi, the capital of India. As Prime Minister of Japan, this will be my first visit to India in about three years, and personally, my very first time visiting the country,” she wrote.
She added that her discussions with Prime Minister Modi would focus on urgent issues, including economic security and energy security, while seeking to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
Responding to Takaichi’s post on X, Prime Minister Modi welcomed his Japanese counterpart to India and expressed confidence that their discussions would further strengthen their partnership.
“We are delighted to host you on your first visit to India and I look forward to our wide-ranging discussions tomorrow that will further deepen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership,” Modi wrote.

Focus On Economic Security And Investment
According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Takaichi’s visit from July 1 to 3 is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties with India, which Tokyo considers vital for the vision of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
During the visit, Takaichi and PM Modi are expected to hold a Japan-India Summit Meeting and discuss ways to expand cooperation in economic security, energy, investment, innovation and other strategic sectors.
The talks are also expected to build on the Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade, announced during Modi’s visit to Japan in August 2025. At the time, Japan pledged to invest 10 trillion yen in India over the coming decade.
India and Japan share a Special Strategic and Global Partnership, with cooperation spanning trade and investment, infrastructure, defence and security, clean energy and emerging technologies.
