Jemimah Rodrigues ruled out of Asia Cup and Asian Games due to hamstring injury

India batter Jemimah Rodrigues has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup and Asian Games after suffering a high-grade hamstring tear while playing in The Hundred in England. Rodrigues sustained the injury to her right hamstring on August 3. She was assessed by the BCCI medical team at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, with the examination confirming a high-grade tear.

“Jemimah Rodrigues sustained a right hamstring injury on 3rd August while playing in The Hundred in England. The BCCI Medical Team clinically assessed her at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, and the assessment confirmed a high-grade tear,” the BCCI said in a statement on Friday. “Consequently, she has been ruled out of the upcoming ACC Women’s Asia Cup in the UAE and the Asian Games in Japan.”

Rodrigues suffered the injury during her campaign with Southern Brave in The Hundred and was ruled out of the ECB’s tournament. The Indian batter was a direct signing by the franchise for £60,000 (US$80,000 approx.) and had been one of their most consistent performers in the competition.

Rodrigues scored 143 runs from six innings for Brave and picked up two Player-of-the-Match awards. Her performances helped the side stay in contention at the top of the women’s competition, with Brave level on 20 points with Trent Rockets, who lead the table on net run rate.

Brave have replaced Rodrigues with Australian all-rounder Charli Knott, who returns to the Utilita Bowl after playing for the franchise in the 2024 edition. Knott has been in good T20 form this English summer, scoring 404 runs and taking 27 wickets for The Blaze during their Vitality Blast-winning campaign.

With Rodrigues unavailable, the Women’s Selection Committee has named Pratika Rawal as her replacement for the Asia Cup, which will be played in Dubai from August 28 to September 13.

The Asian Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.
