Israel Election Results LIVE: Israeli exit polls released early Wednesday suggest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc and the opposition led by former military chief Gadi Eisenkot are tied at around 51 seats each in the 120-member Knesset. Arab-led parties are projected to win about 18 seats, while Netanyahu’s Likud is expected to emerge as the largest single party.
Neither bloc is close to the 61 seats needed for a parliamentary majority, setting the stage for potentially weeks of coalition negotiations.
Eisenkot has vowed to form a new government, but partnering with Arab-led parties could prove politically difficult. Netanyahu had yet to make a public statement following the projections.
The results remain preliminary, and exit polls may differ from the final count. Preliminary results are expected in the coming hours, with official results due in the coming days.
Turnout exceeded 77 per cent, the highest since 1999, according to the Central Elections Committee. More than seven million people were eligible to vote, with tens of thousands reportedly travelling from abroad to cast their ballots.
