Social media speculation claiming podcast host Joe Rogan is being considered to replace Anderson Cooper on “60 Minutes” has been dismissed as false, according to a CBS News spokesperson cited by Forbes.

The rumours gained traction after an online report suggested that Rogan was under consideration for a role at the flagship news magazine.

The report argued that the podcaster’s broad audience appeal could attract viewers who feel disconnected from traditional news outlets. The claim was later amplified by local US media, fuelling further speculation online.

However, there has been no confirmed evidence linking Rogan to any formal discussions about joining the programme or replacing Cooper.

At the same time, confusion has grown around the future of key figures at “60 Minutes”. Anderson Cooper recently stepped away from the programme after nearly two decades, with CBS publishing his farewell message in May. Cooper, however, continues his work at CNN, where he anchors “Anderson Cooper 360°”.

Internal turmoil deepens at CBS News

The speculation over “60 Minutes” comes amid broader turbulence at CBS News, including the reported dismissal of longtime correspondent Scott Pelley following internal disagreements over the show’s direction. Reports suggest tensions escalated during a staff meeting with newly appointed executive producer Nick Bilton, who later issued a termination notice citing conduct concerns.

Pelley, a veteran journalist who joined CBS News in 1989, has reportedly criticised recent leadership changes and defended the programme’s legacy, while the network’s new management has pushed for a reshaped editorial direction.

The restructuring follows CBS becoming part of Paramount Skydance, with media figure Bari Weiss taking a senior role in the news division. Her appointment has reportedly triggered resignations and concerns among some staff about editorial independence.

Additional changes across CBS News have included programme cancellations and leadership reshuffles, contributing to a period of uncertainty within the organisation.
