Premier League side Liverpool announced Andoni Iraola as the new head coach of the side following the exit of Arne Slot.

The former Bournemouth put pen to paper on a contract to keep him at the helm of the Merseyside club for two years.

“Really excited, really excited. Because obviously you know about Liverpool, you know that it’s a big club, a massive club, one of the biggest in the world,” Iraola said.

“But feeling inside and understanding a little bit more of this club, I always thought it’s a special club.”

“You don’t need a lot of things to get attracted by Liverpool. Liverpool is Liverpool.

“But obviously the atmosphere, the supporters, the club, the players, the chance for me to coach top-level players, the chance to fight for titles. I think it cannot be more attractive than this. It’s difficult to find it. So, really excited to start,” he added.

Slot, who came in to follow club icon Jurgen Klopp’s tenure at the helm of the fabled Merseyside club, led the PL heavyweights to their 20th English top-flight crown in his debut season.

However, following a disappointing second-season in which the Reds finished fifth in the English top-flight, the Dutchman was sacked.

Liverpool broke the bank in the transfer window with the signings of multiple names including Florian Wirtz, Jermie Frimpong, Alexander Isak, but could only manage to accumulate 60 points in the 38 game season and finished fifth behind champions Arsenal, chasing Man City, third-placed Man United, and Aston Villa in fourth.

The season which promised much for the Liverpool faithful ending up turning into a bit of a nightmare following star forwards Mohamed Salah’s fall-out with the Dutch boss, which arguably played a catalytic role in the deterioration of relation and Slot’s eventual exit from the storied English side.
