Iran-US War News Live Updates: US President Donald Trump on Monday demanded compensation from Iran for deaths and damage stemming from decades of attacks and conflict, adding a fresh hurdle to efforts to reach a peace deal and reopen the Strait of Hormuz..
Trump said any future negotiations with Iran must include compensation for those killed and wounded in attacks he attributes to Tehran and its allies.
The demand came after Iran set preconditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, including compensation for war damages, complicating efforts to reach a deal over the vital waterway. Iran has also said it is nearing a final agreement with Oman on new shipping arrangements through the Strait of Hormuz.
Amid the deadlock, Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei appointed six senior commanders on Monday. Major General Ali Abdollahi was named chief of staff of the armed forces, while Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi was appointed commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
