The sale season is almost here. Over the next few weeks, major shopping events such as Flipkart’s GOAT Sale and Amazon Prime Day will bring discounts on everything from smartphones and laptops to smartwatches and TVs. And as always, for many buyers, the sale season is also the time when Apple products move to the top of the wishlist.
This year, one of the biggest attractions could be the iPhone 17 Pro. With price cuts, bank offers and exchange deals expected during the sales, you may finally be able to pick up Apple’s flagship for significantly less than its launch price.
But wait. The iPhone 18 Pro is also around the corner.
Apple is expected to unveil its next-generation Pro iPhones in September 2026, which is now only about two-and-a-half months away. So that leaves many buyers with a dilemma: take advantage of the iPhone 17 Pro deals during the sale season, or wait a couple of months for the iPhone 18 Pro?
The answer really depends on what matters more to you, getting a great deal or getting the latest thing.
Why the iPhone 17 Pro is still an easy recommendation
The iPhone 17 Pro is not suddenly becoming old, and it won’t lose its appeal anytime soon.
In fact, right now it is one of the most powerful smartphones Apple has ever made. You get a gorgeous 6.3-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion, up to 3,000 nits of brightness and Ceramic Shield 2 protection.
Inside, there’s Apple’s A19 Pro chip paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 1TB of storage. Whether you spend your day editing videos, gaming, multitasking or simply scrolling through social media, the iPhone 17 Pro has more than enough power for years to come.
The cameras are equally impressive. There’s a trio of 48-megapixel sensors, including a main camera, an ultra-wide lens and a Tetraprism telephoto camera that offers 4x optical zoom and up to 8x optical-quality zoom. You also get an 18-megapixel front camera with autofocus and Centre Stage support.
Battery life remains strong too, with Apple claiming up to 31 hours of video playback. Add Wi-Fi 7, USB-C, Face ID, IP68 water resistance and wireless charging, and you are still looking at one of the most complete flagship phones available today.
With these specifications, the sale makes it even more enticing.
You see, Apple’s latest Pro models rarely get major discounts. But during events such as Prime Day and the GOAT Sale, the combination of instant discounts, exchange bonuses and bank offers can make the iPhone 17 Pro a genuinely tempting deal.
And even after the iPhone 18 Pro makes its way, the iPhone 17 Pro will not lose its charm, overnight.
So, if you need a new phone right now, there is very little about the iPhone 17 Pro that will leave you feeling short-changed.
So what about the iPhone 18 Pro?
Reports suggest the upcoming flagship could be powered by a new A20 chip built on TSMC’s advanced 2nm process, bringing improvements in both performance and efficiency. The phone is also tipped to feature a larger battery, a more power-efficient LTPO+ display, Apple’s next-generation C2 modem and up to 12GB of RAM.
One of the most noticeable changes could be on the front. Apple is reportedly working on a smaller Dynamic Island, with some leaks suggesting the cut-out could shrink by as much as 35 per cent. There are also rumours of under-display Face ID technology being tested, although it remains unclear whether it will be ready for this year’s model.
On top of that, Apple is expected to push further into AI with iOS 27, which is rumoured to bring smarter Apple Intelligence features, a more capable Siri, better onscreen awareness and deeper personal context integration.
The cameras could see upgrades too. Rumours point to a variable aperture system for the main camera, allowing users greater control over depth of field and low-light photography. Apple is also reportedly testing a new stacked image sensor that could improve image quality, responsiveness and dynamic range. Some reports have additionally linked the phone to an upgraded telephoto camera and a higher-resolution selfie camera.
The iPhone 18 Pro is also expected to retain its premium titanium build while introducing new colour options. Leaks have pointed to shades such as Dark Cherry, Light Blue, Dark Grey and Silver, with the deep red-inspired Dark Cherry finish reportedly being Apple’s headline colour this year.
So while the iPhone 18 Pro may look broadly similar to the current model, it could deliver a more polished and refined flagship experience across performance, battery life, cameras, AI features and connectivity.
Should you buy iPhone 17 or wait for iPhone 18 Pro?
If your current phone is struggling, the battery barely lasts a day, or you simply want a new iPhone right now, then a discounted iPhone 17 Pro is probably the smarter buy. You will be getting one of Apple’s best smartphones at a lower price.
But if your current phone is doing just fine, you do not mind waiting another couple of months for Apple’s latest hardware while paying and pay full flagship price, then waiting for the iPhone 18 Pro is certainly an option.
