At least 21 people died, and many others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Friday extended condolences to the families of 13 foreign nationals who were killed after a massive fire broke out in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area.
India confirmed that 13 foreign nationals were killed in the incident, including four from Nigeria, three from Kyrgyzstan, and one each from Mozambique, Liberia, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and Iraq.
“As per available information, we have 13 foreign nationals… We are in touch with all their embassies, and we are trying to help them in the manner that they want. We are intervening with local authorities with all the paperwork that is required, and also with the hospital authorities,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

At least 21 people died, and many others were injured after a massive fire broke out at a hotel in Malviya Nagar. According to the Delhi Police, 11 injured individuals were initially evacuated from the building and taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Canada and the UAE expressed solidarity with India. Lovkesh Bajaj, the owner of the building, was arrested on Wednesday evening by the Delhi Police from Saket. On Thursday, a Delhi court on Thursday called the arrest lawful and granted police four days’ custody of the accused for further investigation.
During an interrogation, Bajaj reportedly told police that he had expanded the number of rooms in the establishment to grow his business. The B&B had the license for only six rooms but operated guests in 25 rooms.
The Delhi government on Thursday announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the families of those killed in the devastating fire. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Gupta directed officials to ensure that all injured persons receive the best possible treatment and instructed the administration to coordinate with foreign missions and authorities in cases involving overseas nationals.
