Rahul Gandhi, Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha, on Friday announced that the INDIA bloc’s planned “public impeachment of CEC Gyanesh Kumar” event scheduled for today, October 30, 2026, has been postponed to Saturday, October 31, 2026, due to unfavourable weather conditions in New Delhi.

“We have decided to postpone today’s event. We will do the event tomorrow,” said Gandhi.

RAHUL GANDHI’S PRESS CONFERENCE

“It is not a good idea for everyone to sit out in the rain, so we will do it tomorrow…We will hold a march at Ramlila Maidan on the 1st,” said Gandhi, addressing the press conference.

“Thousands of people who want to come are being stopped. Now you watch what happens at Ramlila…Watch how many people come. Then you will understand what’s going on in the country,” he said.

There is huge anger…This is one protest and the entire Opposition is here, said Gandhi.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav said, “We will go on November 1st; we will attend the rally.”

    THE ‘PUBLIC IMPEACHMENT’ PLAN

The opposition alliance had organized a symbolic “public impeachment” and mock parliament targeting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The protest is centered around allegations of electoral roll manipulation through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, which the opposition describes as “vote chori” (theft of votes).

Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar was set to chair the mock proceedings, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was scheduled to move the impeachment motion, and Rahul Gandhi was designated to deliver the closing address.

After the Delhi Police allegedly denied permissions at public venues like the Ashok Hotel and Ramlila Maidan, the alliance shifted the event to Mallikarjun Kharge’s official residence at 10 Rajaji Marg, New Delhi.

Following the postponement news, Rahul Gandhi and other INDIA bloc leaders scheduled a press interaction at the Rajaji Marg residence today.

This event serves as a curtain-raiser to a much larger “Chalo Delhi” mega rally and march scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Ramlila Maidan, for which the Congress party has successfully secured a conditional No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Delhi Police.
