Bollywood’s iconic film ‘1942: A Love Story’ was screened at the 56th Indian International Film Festival (IFFI) on Friday. The screening paid tribute to the film’s legacy and RD Burman’s music.
The film’s stars Jackie Shroff and Anupam Kher were present on this special occasion. Apart from this, the film’s director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, writer Kamna Chandra and producer were present. Everyone shared their memories about the film.
Before the screening, when Jackie Shroff was asked about his special memories about Goa, he said – I don’t have any such memories. What I am talking to you about right now are these memories. I don’t remember. I forget. I think ahead.
Talking about Goa, Anupam Kher said- ‘Great honour, I am sharing the stage with Vidhu Vinod, Jackie, Kamna ji. We all have got this opportunity 32 years after the release of 1942. And we shot this film with Vinod 35 years ago. I love the vibration of Goa. I like the relaxed attitude that people have here. I love the people here. IFFI 20205 is very important for us.
While talking about Goa, Kamna Chandra, who wrote 1942 A Love Story, said – ‘It is such a beautiful place that the heart becomes happy after coming here.’
When the film’s director Vidhu Vinod Chopra was asked, how will today’s generation feel connected to this film which was released three decades ago?
On this he said- ‘Love, honesty, goodness, patriotism are forever. Jai Hind was there even 40-50 years ago and will remain Jai Hind even today. When you fall in love you feel that love happens secretly. This feeling existed then and exists even today.
Let us tell you that the film has been restored in 8K version for the special screening at IFFI. Its soundtrack has been remastered into 5.1 sound using a meticulous process, part of which was done at L’Immagine Ritrovata in Bologna, Italy. This is a major lab to preserve cinematic heritage.
