Bangladesh cricket team has refused to play in India.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has rejected Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) demand to change the venue of the T20 World Cup. ICC made it clear that there will be no change in the schedule of the World Cup. News agency ANI gave this news quoting ICC on X. However, later this post was deleted and another post was made giving this information quoting ICC sources.
According to ANI, ICC found in the investigation by international experts that there is no threat to the Bangladesh team and officials in India. The risk regarding Bangladesh’s scheduled matches, especially in Kolkata and Mumbai, can be managed through security arrangements.
ICC’s view on World Cup in 5 points
- Schedule fixed, there will be no change The ICC said that the match schedule for the T20 World Cup 2026 has already been released and all participating teams are expected to fulfill their responsibilities under the rules. The ICC also reiterated that there has been no change in its position.
- Media reports regarding danger rejected The ICC said that some media reports presented contingency planning as a real threat, which is not correct. It is a normal and professional practice to plan in advance for possible situations, so that one is prepared for every situation, even if it is very unlikely. These hypotheses should not be considered as any kind of order or conclusion.
- Trust in BCCI and administration ICC expressed full confidence in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the local administration regarding the security arrangements in India. According to ICC, India has a strong record in conducting major international sporting events safely.
- No conditions were placed on team selectionThe ICC also clarified that it has never said that a team should select or exclude players for security reasons, prevent spectators from wearing national colors or alter a country’s domestic democratic process.
- Security is constantly being reviewed ICC said that the security plan for T20 World Cup 2026 is being constantly reviewed. In this process, advice is being taken from all the member boards including Bangladesh Cricket Board. The ICC said it is open to suggestions and dialogue to further strengthen security arrangements, if necessary.
Controversy over exclusion of Mustafizur Rahman from IPL
On December 16, in the IPL mini auction, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought Bangladeshi bowler Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 9.20 crore. After this, Mustafizur started being opposed in India due to the killing of Hindus in Bangladesh. So far 6 Hindus have been murdered there. Later BCCI did not allow Mustafizur to play IPL and on January 3, KKR released him.
Bangladesh bans IPL broadcast
After the release of Mustafizur from KKR, Bangladesh Cricket Board and the government there banned the telecast of IPL. He also refused to play the World Cup match in India and sent an e-mail to ICC to change the venue.
Bangladesh is in Group C
Bangladesh has been placed in Group C in the T-20 World Cup. The teams are scheduled to face West Indies on 7 February, Italy on 9 February and England on 14 February. All three matches are to be played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. The team’s last group stage match is to be played against Nepal on 17th February in Mumbai.
