‘I Ended 7 Wars, Including India-Pakistan Conflict’: Trump Repeats Nobel Peace Prize Claim

US President Donald Trump used his speech at the United Nations General Assembly to cast himself as a peacemaker, declaring that he has ended “seven unendable wars” during his second term so far.

“In just seven months, I have ended seven unendable wars,” Donald Trump told world leaders, adding, “They said they were unendable- some were going for 31 years, one for 36 years. I ended seven wars and in all cases they were raging, with countless thousands of people being killed.”

“I should get the noble peace prize for stopping these wars,” the US President asserted as he went on to list conflicts he claimed to have brought to a close, citing disputes involving India and Pakistan, Cambodia and Thailand, Serbia and Kosovo, the Congo and Rwanda, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia and Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Trump Persists With India-Pakistan Claim

Among the conflicts he cited, Donald Trump repeated his claim of having brokered a truce between India and Pakistan earlier this year. In May, Donald Trump announced on social media that Washington had mediated a “full and immediate” ceasefire following a military standoff after New Delhi’s strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Despite India firmly denying the claim, Donald Trump has reiterated it at several conferences and state events. India has consistently maintained that the ceasefire understanding with Pakistan was reached bilaterally, through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries, without foreign involvement.

Earlier this month, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar echoed India’s position, telling Al Jazeera, “India never agreed to any third-party mediation on bilateral issues. We don’t mind third-party involvement, but India has categorically been stating it’s a bilateral matter.”

Donald Trump Slams UN

Donald Trump used the platform to take a swipe at the United Nations, arguing that it had been absent in mediating these disputes. He said, “It’s too bad I had to do these things instead of the UN doing them, and sadly, the UN did not try to help in any of them. I ended seven wars, dealt with leaders of each and every nation, but did not even receive a phone call from the UN.”

The remarks marked Donald Trump’s first appearance at the UNGA since 2020.
