Other people also said that from July they started getting information about visa cancellation through email or mobile message. The sponsors of some people present in UAE were also informed about this. No case against anyone, yet unable to go back One man told The Daily Star that there is no criminal case or legal dispute against him in the UAE. Despite this his visa was cancelled. He told that he has two businesses in UAE and his wife lives in Dubai. Now he is making rounds of different government offices for permission to return. More than 12 lakh Bangladeshis in UAE Bangladesh started sending its people to UAE for jobs in 1976. Currently, more than 12 lakh Bangladeshis are living in UAE. Apart from the employed people, these also include businessmen and people doing other work. Bangladesh’s Minister of State for Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Nurul Haq Noor had said on Facebook on September 7 that his ministry and the Foreign Ministry are aware of the cancellation of visas of about 4 thousand Bangladeshis. After this, reports came quoting Bangladeshi ministry sources putting the number of affected people at 4,800. However, the UAE government has not yet publicly confirmed the number of visa cancellations of 4,800. Affected people said – There should be employment arrangements in other countries. In the program held at the National Press Club on September 7, the affected Bangladeshis put forward many demands before the government. Why were the visas cancelled? No official reason for visa cancellation has been revealed yet. According to MS Sheikhil Chowdhury, president of the Center for Non-Resident Bangladeshi, the UAE has increased screening and monitoring of expatriates amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. He says that now whether the visa has been renewed on time or not, whether there are any irregularities in the documents and how their activities are on social media, these things are being investigated more. However, he did not say that this was the reason in the case of those whose visas were cancelled. According to Chaudhary, the current situation in the Middle East seems to be affecting the investigation process of UAE.
