US President Donald Trump described US involvement in Iran as a “military operation” rather than a war.

US President Donald Trump on Thursday (local time) made strong claims about the situation in Iran and asserted that US intervention has prevented mass executions and degraded Iran’s military capabilities.
Speaking at an executive order signing in the Oval Office, Trump alleged that thousands of people have been killed in Iran in recent months. “Iran killed 42,000 people over the last two months. They were going to kill eight women whose lives I saved. And I appreciate that they didn’t do it. I asked them not to do it, but they didn’t do it.”
He described US involvement as a “military operation” rather than a war. “And that’s despite a military operation. I don’t call it a war. I’d rather have a military operation. Iran is dying to make a deal.” He also pointed to economic pressure on Tehran, adding, “Their economy is crashing. The blockade is incredible. The power of the blockade is incredible. They’re not getting any money from oil. And hopefully, it can be worked out very soon.”

He said he personally intervened to stop the execution of women. “They were getting ready to hang the women. I got on the phone very quickly, and I said, ‘Don’t do it. The whole world is watching.'”

Trump repeated his claim about the death toll, stating, “They killed 42,000 innocent, not weapon-carrying people, for protesting, and the number they say is a lot higher than that.”
‘Settled India-Pakistan War Through Tariff Threats’
The US President also reiterated his claim that he played a key role in easing tensions between India and Pakistan during their 2025 conflict.
Speaking to reporters, Trump said he used the threat of tariffs to push both sides towards de-escalation. “Almost in every case, they sent letters thanking me and letters to the Nobel Committee. In the case of India. The Prime Minister of Pakistan said, I saved from 30 to 50 million lives. But it could have been more than that. Two nuclear nations were going at it. 11 aeroplanes were shot down. I got it solved, by the use of tariffs. I said, I’m going to charge you tariffs if you keep fighting,” he said. “They said, ‘Oh please, don’t do that,'” Trump added.

The US President has repeated similar claims several times in recent months. Since 10 May last year, when he posted on social media that both countries had agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire, Trump has credited himself more than 80 times for stopping the conflict. He has also said that he has “stopped eight wars” since returning to the White House.
However, India has offered a contrary version and stated that the halt in fighting followed developments during Operation Sindoor, when Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations reached out to his Indian counterpart to end hostilities.
