Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the deep cultural and people-to-people ties between India and Seychelles, saying that shared culinary traditions such as chutney and samosa reflect the enduring bond between the two nations.

In his remarks, the Prime Minister said the flavours of chutney and samosa have become symbols of the historical and cultural links that connect the Indian diaspora with the island nation.

“Chutney and samosa flavours are among the unique elements that reflect the shared heritage of India and Seychelles,” Modi said.

Shared Cultural Legacy

The Prime Minister said the relationship between India and Seychelles extends beyond diplomacy and trade, and is rooted in centuries of cultural exchanges and close people-to-people connections.

He noted that the Indian community has made significant contributions to Seychelles over the years while preserving traditions that continue to strengthen bilateral ties.

Strong India-Seychelles Partnership

India and Seychelles share close cooperation in areas including maritime security, development partnerships, healthcare, education, capacity building and climate resilience.

New Delhi has been one of Seychelles’ key development partners, supporting infrastructure projects, defence cooperation and human resource development through grants, lines of credit and technical assistance.

People-To-People Ties At The Core

Modi said cultural traditions, cuisine and the Indian diaspora continue to serve as a bridge between the two countries, reinforcing the friendship beyond official engagements.

He stressed that such shared heritage strengthens mutual understanding and reflects the warmth of India-Seychelles relations.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come as India continues to deepen its engagement with countries in the Indian Ocean Region, with Seychelles remaining an important strategic and cultural partner.
