Jaineendra Kumaar Nigam’s journey to becoming a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Madhya Pradesh has been marked by legal battles, financial difficulties and personal setbacks. Despite being jailed twice and appearing for a competitive exam in handcuffs, he continued pursuing his goal of joining the state police service and eventually secured the 12th rank in the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) exam.

Nigam belongs to a farming family in Dongarpura village in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district. His ambition was influenced by his father, Keshav Kumar Nigam, who had appeared for the MPPSC main exam five times between 1996 and 2000 but could not achieve his goal of entering the state civil services.

Nigam’s preparation was disrupted by family disputes and legal cases. He was imprisoned twice during 2019 and 2020. During one period of custody, he was taken to an MPPSC preliminary exam centre under police escort, with handcuffs on his wrists, reported Moneycontrol.

His family also faced severe hardship, including an incident in which their house was set on fire. These circumstances affected his preparation and created financial and emotional difficulties.

After being released from jail in January 2021, Nigam moved to Indore to resume preparing for government recruitment exams. He remained committed to his ambition, drawing motivation from a promise he had made to his mother that he would return home as a DSP.

Nigam relied on self-study to prepare for competitive exams. He made his own notes and attempted around 600 to 700 test-series papers to improve his performance.

His efforts also resulted in earlier successes in government recruitment exams. He cleared the police constable examination in 2015 and the Sub-Inspector exam in 2017. He later qualified for a teacher recruitment exam and secured other government positions, including that of a naib tehsildar.

However, becoming a DSP remained his primary goal.

Nigam’s journey continued to be challenging. During preparation for the MPPSC 2023 main examination, he reportedly contracted malaria and typhoid but appeared for the examinations held in March 2024 while receiving medical treatment.

He was acquitted in the cases against him in 2024. The MPPSC 2023 results, announced in November 2025, brought the outcome he had worked towards: Nigam secured the 12th rank and was selected as a DSP.

His achievement fulfilled a long-standing personal ambition and carried forward his father’s unfulfilled dream of entering the state civil services. His journey illustrates how he continued preparing for competitive examinations despite repeated disruptions and personal adversity.
