Harry Kane has won his first Ballon d’Or award. On Monday, at a glitzy ceremony in London, he became the first Englishman to claim football’s most prestigious individual honour since Michael Owen in 2001 to end his country’s 25-year wait for the award.
The Bayern Munich striker was named the world’s best men’s footballer at a ceremony held at Palladium Theatre.
Following his historic achievement, the 33-year-old’s message on X has gone viral.
“Work hard in silence. Let success be your noise,” wrote Kane.

He is only the fifth Englishman to win the Ballon d’Or.
Kane’s triumph followed an exceptional 2025-26 campaign in which he scored 73 goals in 65 appearances for England and Bayern Munich.
His tally included 61 goals for Bayern and 12 for England.
The striker helped Bayern secure the Bundesliga title and German Cup while captaining England to the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals.
He secured the award ahead of strong contenders Kylian Mbappe of France and Lamine Yamal of Spain.
Kane expressed his disbelief after receiving the trophy, opening his acceptance speech with the words: “Wow, wow, wow. First of all, I’m almost speechless.”
The opportunity to win the award in London made the occasion even more special for the England captain.
“Being here in London has made it extra special. Made it a good omen for me tonight. Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I can imagine it was tough this year,” he said.
He also paid tribute to his Bayern Munich teammates, acknowledging their role in helping him reach the pinnacle of individual football recognition.
“Without you guys (his Bayern Munich team-mates) and the rest of the team it wouldn’t be possible, the way you guys push me, the way we compete. So thank you very much,” he said.
Kane, after progressing through Tottenham Hotspur’s academy and spending several loan spells away from the club early in his career, established himself as one of Europe’s most consistent forwards before joining Bayern Munich in 2023.
