Pope Leo XIV on Sunday said that he is deeply concerned with the situation in Venezuela, also adding that he is constantly following the developments.
“It is with deep concern that I am following the developments in Venezuela. The good of the beloved Venezuelan people must prevail over every other consideration. This must lead to the overcoming of violence, and to the pursuit of paths of justice and peace. I pray for all this, and I invite you to pray too, entrusting our prayer to the intercession of Our Lady of Coromotoand to Saints José Gregorio Hernández and Carmen Rented,” he wrote in a post on X.
Earlier in the day, he called for Venezuela to remain an independent nation and said he was following developments after the United States’ toppling of President Nicolas Maduro with a “soul full of concern”.
“We must not delay in overcoming violence and embarking on paths of justice and peace, while guaranteeing the country’s sovereignty,” the pope told pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square during his Sunday prayer.

“The good of the beloved Venezuelan people must prevail over every other consideration,” the pontiff said.
