People who’ve watched Dhurandhar were quite heartened to see the bond between Ranveer Singh and Gaurav Gera aka Hamza and Aalam, respectively. The two stood by each other as undercover agents in Pakistan, and their silent glances spoke a lot about their bond. Gaurav, in an exclusive chat with India Today, recently opened up about his experience of working with Ranveer, offering a glimpse into the actor’s process and discipline.
“See, Ranveer is a superstar for a reason…he is so good at what he does. And also, he is so organised. He is so into the character. He takes a keen interest,” Gera shared, highlighting the actor’s commitment to his craft.
He went on to add that Ranveer’s involvement goes beyond just his own performance, as he said, “He didn’t need to give cues in my scene. Because that usually happens on shoots. But he was there, present throughout. He was so involved with the film. And that’s how he is. He is there [at that position] for a reason.”
Gaurav Gera also recalled how their old ‘Chutki-shopkeeper’ collaboration resurfaced online after Dhurandhar. He shared how he was surprised when fans started reposting the videos and celebrating their bond. The actor added that he was also taken aback when Ranveer remembered that they had shot the fun video years back. “He just tapped on my shoulder, saying, ‘How are you, Chutki?’ (laughs). I was so shocked since here I was with a beard on my face, and he was calling me Chutki. But he remembered… that’s how he is. It was amazing,” he added.
When asked if he noticed any change in Ranveer over the years, Gaurav pointed out the evolution in the actor’s performances. “He’s grown so much. Playing Hamza… he did it with so much maturity. He was so calm, which is very in contrast to how I see him at events or parties. The calm energy was he plays it so well,” he said.
Summing it up, the actor described Ranveer as someone who effortlessly balances both ends of the spectrum: “Yeah, he is perfect as both.”
Dhurandhar: The Revenge clocked a month in theatres recently and is still enjoying a great run at the box office.
