GATE 2026 aspirants can apply by visiting the official website at gate2026.iitg.ac.in until October 13, 2025, by paying the required late fee.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has extended the registration deadline for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering or GATE 2026 with a late fee. Candidates interested and eligible can apply by visiting the official website at gate2026.iitg.ac.in until October 13, 2025, by paying the required late fee. Previously, the last date to apply with a late fee was October 9, 2025.

During this extended period, the application fee is Rs 1,500 for female, SC, ST, PwD candidates (per test paper) and Rs 2,500 for all other candidates, including foreign nationals (per test paper). The fee must be paid online.

Graduates or final year students pursuing a degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts/Humanities can apply for the exam. There is no age limit for GATE.

GATE 2026 is scheduled for February 7, 8, 14, and 15 next year, with results set to be announced on March 19, 2026.

How To Apply For GATE 2026?

Step 1: Head to the official website of GATE 2026 at gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

Step 2: On the homepage, look for the Apply Online link and click on it.

Step 3: Next up, register yourself on the portal by providing the required details.

Step 4: After logging in, fill in the GATE 2026 Application form and submit all the necessary documents.

Step 5: Pay the application fee and click on proceed.

Step 6: Save and take a hard copy of the application for future reference.

Candidates can now appear for two papers, provided they are in the approved paper combination. The list of these combinations will be available on the official website. For example, the AE paper can only be combined with CE, ME, or XE (Engineering Sciences).

A new section called Energy Science (XE-I) has been added to the Engineering Sciences (XE) category. It will consists of Engineering Mathematics section which is compulsory and will carry 15 marks. There will also be two optional sections to be chosen by the candidates carrying 35 marks each. Furthermore, the exam fees has been increased.
