Flight operations in Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport were impacted following a technical glitch in the lights along the runway on Saturday, according to airport officials.
According to officials, the disruption affected both domestic and international flights, prompting authorities to ground aircraft as a safety precaution. Technical teams have been deployed to identify and resolve the issue, and efforts are underway to restore normal operations at the earliest.
A spokesperson for the airport told news agency ANI that there was a problem in the airfield lighting system of the runway. “At least five flights are on hold as of now. All arrival and departure flights, domestic and international, have been delayed. The problem was detected at 5:30 pm (local time),” said Renji Sherpa, spokesperson for the TIA.
Tribhuvan International Airport is Nepal’s main aviation hub, handling the majority of the country’s air traffic.
This is a developing story.
