How police tracked Rajat
It soon became evident that locals might also have played a role in the conspiracy. Using technical analysis, call records and human intelligence, the team tracked down 29-year-old Rajat, a resident of Sonipat, on June 25. Interrogation and an examination of his mobile phone revealed that he was in touch with the extortionist, who was operating from the USA, as well as the victim’s wife, Sapna, and her sister.
Rajat was also in contact with several members of the Gogi gang, including the incarcerated gangster, Rohit Moi.
The wife’s plan
The investigation has also revealed that Sapna Jain had conspired to extort money from the businessman, have his mother murdered, and orchestrate an attack on him. The police have also recovered several crucial chats and pieces of evidence from the accused’s mobile phones.
During questioning, Rajat confessed that Sapna Jain had assigned him the task. The plan involved first extorting money from the husband, followed by orchestrating the murder of the mother-in-law and an attack on the husband. Jain was constantly providing Rajat with information regarding her husband’s every activity, movements, and daily routine. Following this revelation, the police arrested Sapna Jain as well.
Married for 19 years, why Sapna Jain planned the attack
The victim had married Jain in 2007, and the couple has two children, aged 17 and 15. Jain was embroiled in a domestic dispute with her husband and mother-in-law, in which the mother-in-law sided with her son.
Irked, Sapna hired Rajat.
Who is Rajat?
Rajat had a prior criminal record. Three years ago, he met Karmveer Pehalwan, alias Meeta, who is currently in the United States. He has been booked in three cases involving theft and violations of the Arms Act in Sonipat. Rajat was a friend of Jain’s sister.
