Several explosions were reported across southern Iran on Thursday, according to Iranian media reports, as the country entered a third day of strikes. The cause of the latest explosions remained unclear, while US officials said the American military was not currently conducting strikes in Iran.
Iran’s semi-official More news agency reported explosions in several southern areas, including Bushehr, Choghadak and Konarak. It also said residents in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas reported hearing explosions.
The governor of Bushehr confirmed that explosions were heard in Bushehr and Choghadak, according to state news agency IRNA. He said it was still under investigation whether the sounds came from Iranian air defence systems, an enemy projectile hitting the areas, or an enemy drone being targeted.
More reported that two explosions were heard around Bushehr, where Iran has a nuclear plant, and nearby Choghadak. The agency did not provide details on the cause, damage or casualties.
It also reported three explosions in Konarak, a port city on Iran’s Makran coast. No immediate information was available on the cause of the blasts or any possible damage.
US Denies Role In Latest Strikes
The reports of explosions came as Iran faced a third day of strikes following the start of renewed fighting between the US and Iran.
Washington had confirmed responsibility for the previous two rounds of strikes, saying they were carried out in response to attacks on shipping vessels by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.
However, the US has not announced that it carried out the latest reported strikes. Sources familiar with the matter told Al Arabiya English that the US military was not striking targets in Iran.
A US official also told CNN that the US military was not currently conducting strikes. i24NEWSciting a US official, also reported that American forces were not carrying out strikes at the time.
The latest explosions were reported after Israel sought approval from US President Donald Trump to imminently resume Israeli attacks on Iran, according to senior Israeli officials cited by CNN.
