As high-stakes negotiations to end the wider West Asia conflict continued in Doha, US President Donald Trump shared a significant update on one of the most contentious issues in the talks — Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the enriched uranium — which he described as “Nuclear Dust!” — would either be immediately handed over to the United States to be transported and destroyed, or dismantled under international supervision in coordination with Iran.

He added that the process would take place under the observation of the Atomic Energy Commission “or its equivalent”, suggesting that international oversight could become part of any potential agreement between Washington and Tehran.

Trump’s remarks come amid intense diplomatic efforts involving Qatari mediators, Iranian officials and US negotiators aimed at securing a ceasefire framework, restoring maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and reviving broader discussions around Iran’s nuclear programme.

The remarks are significant because they appear to signal a possible softening in Washington’s position on Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile — one of the biggest sticking points in the negotiations. Earlier US positions were largely centred around removing the material entirely from Iranian territory. Trump’s latest comments, however, indicate that the uranium could potentially be destroyed inside Iran under a monitored mechanism, a position much closer to what Tehran has been seeking during the talks.

Iran has consistently opposed transferring its nuclear material abroad, arguing that any arrangement must preserve its sovereignty and civilian nuclear rights while ensuring sanctions relief.

Iran’s enriched uranium reserves have remained one of the biggest sticking points in negotiations, with Washington pushing for tighter controls and dismantling measures, while Tehran has insisted on sanctions relief and guarantees over its civilian nuclear activities.
