Election Results 2026 Highlights: BJP Scripts Historic 200+ Seats Win; TVK In Pole Position In Tamil Nadu

Counting of votes for the 2026 Assembly elections is underway across five key regions – West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry – covering 823 seats and setting up a crucial test for incumbents versus challengers.

West Bengal remains the centrepiece, where the Bharatiya Janata Party is attempting to unseat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) after over a decade in power. While exit polls favour the BJP, uncertainties persist.

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK-Congress alliance led by M. K. Stalin is seeking re-election, with actor-politician Vijay emerging as a potential disruptor with his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) debut.

Kerala is witnessing a key contest as Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan faces a resurgent Congress-led opposition, making the outcome significant for the Left’s national prospects.

In Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP-led alliance are expected to retain power, though the victory margin remains under watch. Meanwhile, Gaurav Gogoi faces a critical electoral test.

In Puducherry, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and the NDA face a competitive, multi-cornered contest.

Counting for bypolls is also underway, with attention on whether exit polls hold or surprises emerge.
