A senior NSUI official told Aaj Tak that the dispute deepened after the defeat of Punjab University Students Union (PUSU) elections. In this election, ABVP created history and won the post of president, after which NSUI workers described ticket distribution as the biggest reason for defeat.
He also told, ‘Local unit and national president Varun Chaudhary wanted to make Sumit Kumar the presidential candidate, but Kanhaiya Kumar gave a ticket to Prabhjot Singh, ignoring his opinion.’ It is believed that this decision proved to be heavy for NSUI.
Let us know that in the elections held in Punjab, ABVP candidate Gaurav Veer Sohal became the winner with 3,148 votes. Sumit Kumar, who fought independents after being deprived of the ticket, finished second with 2,660 votes, while Kanhaiya’s candidate Prabhjot Singh got only 1,359 votes. In this regard, an NSUI leader from Chandigarh says, ‘We lost the winning battle. Prabhjot was included in NSUI a few days before the election.
Ruckus over Kanhaiya Kumar’s decisions
The matter increased so much that Varun Chaudhary directly talked to Rahul Gandhi. Sources say that this has deepened the dispute between Kanhaiya and Chaudhary. Some NSUI workers also alleged that Kanhaiya Kumar is bringing his old colleagues associated with leftist organizations to NSUI. He believes that the inclination of the Congress student unit is moving towards the left.
A senior NSUI leader says, ‘Two different Shakti centers have now become within the organization. If a worker talks to one faction, then another group gets angry with him. This politics can severely affect the party’s performance in the DUSU election. Last year, Raunak Khatri of NSUI created history by winning the post of DUSU president after seven years. But given this year’s internal tussle, the party is afraid that the defeat like Punjab University should not be repeated even in Delhi University.
According to sources, recently there was an important meeting between KC Venugopal, Kanhaiya Kumar and Varun Chaudhary, in which the Congress leadership tried to reconcile between the two groups. It is being said that Kanhaiya has also been instructed to stop the process of selection of the new president. Senior Congress leaders believe that if this dispute is not resolved soon, the party may face a big defeat in the DUSU elections.
