Dubai, Abu Dhabi, UAE News LIVE Updates: Multiple powerful explosions were heard across Dubai early Wednesday as Iran continued its retaliatory strikes across the Gulf region.
Officials said air defence systems were activated to intercept incoming missiles and drones, noting that the United Arab Emirates has faced more than 2,000 aerial threats from Iran since the conflict began.
An Iranian projectile landed near Australia’s Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE, causing minor damage to an accommodation facility and a medical unit. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said all personnel stationed at the base were safe.
The authorities in Gulf states and the US Central Command (CENTCOM) have reported 28 people killed — 15 of them civilians – since the start of the Iranian attacks. The rest of those killed were military or security personnel, including seven US service members.
While the UAE reported eight deaths, including six civilians due to a helicopter crash, Saudi Arabia recorded two civilian deaths and Bahrain two civilian deaths. Oman’s maritime security centre reported the death of a mariner at sea and two other people in a drone attack on an industrial area.
Qatar’s interior ministry has reported 16 injuries and no fatalities. CENTCOM has confirmed six US service personnel killed in Kuwait and one killed in Saudi Arabia.
Amid rising regional tensions, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates announced measures to bolster the country’s banking sector. The move comes as Gulf economies seek to shield themselves from the economic fallout of the crisis.
