Donald Trump Jr, the son of US President Donald Trump, spent Thursday in Gujarat as a special guest of the Ambani family, touring the state’s temples, wildlife facilities and cultural venues. His visit was centred around Vantara — the vast wildlife rescue and rehabilitation initiative developed under the leadership of Anant Ambani — located in Jamnagar’s Green Belt.
Trump Jr began his day at the sprawling 3,000-acre Vantara campus, where he was accompanied by Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. During the tour, he was briefed on the centre’s pioneering conservation and animal welfare programmes, which form a significant part of Reliance Industries’ philanthropic outreach. He visited key enclosures, interacted with the animal care staff, and reviewed the medical and rescue operations that have positioned Vantara as one of India’s most ambitious conservation efforts.
Built next to the Reliance Jamnagar Refinery Complex, Vantara currently houses a state-of-the-art hospital and research centre spread over one lakh square feet. The facility features advanced medical equipment, including MRI and CT scan units, an ICU, endoscopy suites, dialysis capabilities, and OR1 technology that supports live surgical conferencing. These resources enable the centre to treat a wide range of injured, distressed or endangered animals from across India and abroad.
Since its inception, Vantara has rescued nearly 200 leopards injured in road accidents or human–wildlife conflicts, along with more than 1,000 crocodiles transferred from an overcrowded facility in Tamil Nadu. The centre has also rehabilitated animals from hunting lodges, threats of euthanasia, and global facilities unable to provide proper care. To strengthen long-term conservation, Vantara has initiated breeding programmes for several endangered Indian and international species, aimed at creating stable reserve populations that can eventually support wild repopulation.
After completing his tour of the wildlife sanctuary, Trump Jr visited local temples in Jamnagar, offering prayers to Lord Ganesh alongside Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. In the evening, he joined a private dandiya gathering hosted by the Ambani family. Earlier in the day, he also made a brief stop at the Taj Mahal in Agra before arriving in Gujarat.
