Delhi Traffic Police will regulate and divert traffic around Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Parliament Street, Ashoka Road and Jantar Mantar Road from 8 am on Tuesday (October 6), on a day opposition lawmakers plan to march to the Election Commission. Commuters should expect barricading, congestion, diversions and longer travel times across the district.
The advisory, issued on X, asks commuters to avoid unnecessary travel through the affected areas, allow extra time and prefer the Metro or other public transport. It also asks them not to stop or park near restricted zones and to follow instructions from traffic personnel. The advisory does not name the event behind the “special traffic arrangements”.
Separately, a police deployment note says more than 3,000 personnel, including 27 male and 4 female companies, have been posted in New Delhi district. These include the Parliament complex, the Parliament Street roundabout and the gates of the Election Commission, with extra security at several Metro station gates.
