Delhi Teen Crashes Rented Thar Into Several Vehicles While Trying To Avoid Family In Noida

While driving the rented SUV with his minor friend, the teenager spotted his parents in Noida’s Sector 24 and attempted to reverse the car at high speed to avoid being seen.

A 17-year-old boy from Delhi allegedly crashed a rented Mahindra Thar into several vehicles after losing control while trying to avoid being seen by his family in Noida on Thursday, according to reports. Two people were reportedly injured in the crash.

The incident occurred near the ESIC Hospital in Noida’s Sector 24. Police said the boy from Delhi’s Kondli had taken the SUV on rent without informing his family and travelled to Noida with his friend, who was also a minor, according to a report by the Hindustan Times.

On Thursday, around 5 pm, while driving a rented SUV with his minor friend, the boy noticed his parents approaching from the opposite direction and tried to reverse the SUV at high speed to avoid being seen by them. While escaping at speed, he crashed into two or three two-wheelers, according to SK Tomar, station house officer of the Sector 24 police station.

The SUV then rammed into a divider and came to a stop. Two people, identified as Pankaj and Sumit, were injured in the crash and were rushed to a nearby hospital after police reached the spot. They were later discharged after treatment.

The two boys attempted to escape after the crash. However, people present at the scene chased them down and prevented them from leaving until the police arrived, according to an NDTV report.

Authorities are now investigating how the minor was able to rent the vehicle despite being underage. As per the Hindustan Times report, the boy had booked the Lucknow-registered Thar online for Rs 4,000 using money taken from home.

Police have seized the Thar vehicle and detained the two boys, while a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash driving and causing injuries. The SUV was badly wrecked due to the force of the impact.
