Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has accused Pakistan’s military establishment of alienating China, undermining investments linked to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and paving the way for greater US influence in the country. He also alleged that the military-backed ruling setup was exploiting Pakistan’s mineral wealth for the benefit of foreign powers.

In a series of sharp remarks, Fazlur Rehman alleged that the establishment had deliberately sabotaged Chinese economic investments and warned that Beijing’s disillusionment could deter other countries from investing in Pakistan.

“You have alienated China and deliberately sabotaged their economic investments midway. If China steps back in disillusionment, no global power will ever risk investing in your state,” he said.

“The military-backed ruling setup is clearing the path for Washington to replace Beijing,” he added.

Fazlur Rehman also claimed that senior US officials had spoken to him about the alleged transfer of mineral samples from Pakistan to foreign powers. He accused military officials of taking samples of the country’s mineral resources abroad as part of dealings with foreign governments.

“Top US officials admitted this to me directly, after our so-called honourable generals and top brass packed up boxes of rich mineral samples from our land to offer as tribute at foreign headquarters,” he alleged.

“When the military elite peddles national resources off to foreign masters like this, the betrayal is clear,” he said.

‘Personal cuts before country’

The JUI-F chief also accused politicians backed by the military establishment of prioritising personal gains and institutional interests over the country’s welfare.

“I know the true priorities of these establishment-backed politicians. In every deal and state affair, they lock in their personal cuts and institutional bribes first,” he said.

“Thinking of the country is an afterthought and even then, serving the agenda of their military handlers and foreign masters comes above all else,” he added.

Fazlur Rehman alleges mineral exploitation in tribal belt

Fazlur Rehman also questioned the imposition of emergency measures in Kohat, alleging that the move was being used as a cover for exploiting the mineral wealth of Pakistan’s tribal belt.

“Dragging Kohat into an emergency state is a calculated regime ploy. Official trade routes with Afghanistan are shut down to strangle local commerce, yet illicit smuggling routes run unchecked under security supervision,” he alleged.

“This emergency decree is nothing but a cover for the military establishment to plunder and smuggle out the tribal belt’s rich natural reserves,” he said.

He also directly challenged the country’s military leadership, saying he was prepared to confront the Field Marshal over what he described as the moral degradation of the top command.
