2. New rules for online gaming come into effect from today

shift: ‘Online Gaming Rules 2026’ have become effective in the country today. Under this, ‘Online Gaming Authority of India’ (OGAI) will be formed. This organization will work to regulate online games, divide them into different categories and monitor them.

Under this, games have been divided into three categories. Online Money Games, Online Social Games and E-Sports. Money games are banned while registration will be required for other gaming platforms.

Now even foreign gaming companies will not be able to escape Indian laws. If a company is providing services in India, no matter where its headquarters is, it will have to follow Indian rules.

For the safety of users, online games will have features like age limit, parental control and time limit. Financial transactions taking place during gaming will also be monitored.

Effect: Strict rules and features like age limit/parental controls are expected to reduce cases of gaming addiction and cheating, thereby creating a safer environment for users.

At the same time, betting is expected to stop due to tightening of control on foreign companies. This will increase government revenue and e-sports will get more recognition as a legitimate sport.

3. Export of diesel and aviation fuel will be cheaper

shift: The central government has reduced the special additional excise duty on diesel exports to ₹23 per liter for the next 15 days from May 1. In April it was ₹55.5.

At the same time, special additional excise duty on ATF i.e. aviation fuel has been reduced to ₹ 33 per liter. In April it was ₹42. Apart from this, by changing the definition of fuel, the Petroleum Ministry has now allowed blending of synthetic fuel in ATF.

Effect: Due to reduced duty, it will be cheaper for Indian refining companies like Reliance and Nayara to sell fuel in foreign markets, which may improve their profits.

The Finance Ministry has clarified that there has been no change in the excise duty on petrol and diesel for domestic consumption, hence fuel prices will remain stable for the general public.

Allowing synthetic blends in ATF will promote the use of environment-friendly and alternative fuels in the aviation sector, thereby bringing clarity to industry standards.

4. UAE separated from OPEC and OPEC Plus from today

shift: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has separated from OPEC and OPEC+ with effect from May 1. It is the world’s largest oil producing organization, which controls about 40-50% of the oil supply in the global market and decides the prices by setting production quotas.

Effect: UAE will be able to increase oil production after getting out of OPEC restrictions. This will increase the supply in the global market and the prices of crude oil are expected to come down. Oil importing countries like India will get an opportunity to diversify their sources of oil supply.
