Pep Guardiola is officially recruiting help from anywhere he can get it.
After Manchester City cruised past Brentford FC 3-0 on Saturday, Guardiola wrapped up his post-match press conference with a desperate and hilarious plea aimed squarely at West Ham United FC.
Crossing his arms in imitation of the Hammers’ iconic gesture, Guardiola grinned and shouted: “Come on, you Irons!”
City’s victory moved them within two points of Arsenal FC in the Premier League title race, piling pressure on Mikel Arteta’s side ahead of their trip to the London Stadium.
City Get The Job Done
For a while, though, Guardiola’s side hardly looked comfortable.
Brentford, still chasing European qualification themselves, frustrated City for long spells before Jeremy Doku finally broke the deadlock just after the hour mark with a brilliant curling strike.
From there, City found another gear. Erling Haaland bundled home a second before setting up Omar Marmoush late on to seal the win and keep the title race alive heading into the final stretch.
Guardiola Loving The Chaos
Even though City are no longer fully in control after their dramatic 3-3 draw at Everton earlier in the week, Guardiola admitted he is enjoying every second of another title battle.
“I love to be here again,” Guardiola said. “We finish second again this season minimum so I love it.”
The Spaniard also reflected on how different this campaign feels compared to last season, when City finished 13 points behind Liverpool and struggled simply to stay in the Champions League race.
“I didn’t enjoy last season,” he admitted. “That moment when we were fighting to qualify for the Champions League was so difficult.”
Now, City are chasing another remarkable finish to the season with the FA Cup Final still to come and the Carabao Cup already secured.
But Guardiola knows Arsenal slipping up is now essential.
“It’s not in our hands now,” he said. “So it depends on them dropping points.”
