A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Saturday served a notice to Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee, summoning him for questioning in connection with the alleged MLA signature forgery case.
The CID has asked Banerjee to appear at Bhabani Bhavan at 12 noon on June 1, news agency ANI reported.

A four-member CID team visited Banerjee’s residence, ‘Santiniketan’, on Harish Mukherjee Road in Kolkata to serve the notice. However, officials were informed by staff members that the TMC leader was not present at the residence.
The investigators later reached Banerjee’s Kalighat residence, where he personally received the notice from CID officials, according to News18 Bangla.
Speaking to reporters after accepting the notice, Banerjee said he would consult his lawyers and cooperate with the investigation. He added that he was willing to appear before investigators if required.
“I have nothing to hide. I have appeared before the ED and CBI multiple times in the past,” he said, while alleging misuse of power by political opponents.
Banerjee also claimed that CID officials appeared unaware that he had not been residing at the Harish Mukherjee Road address for several years.
The summons is linked to an ongoing investigation into allegations that signatures of several Trinamool Congress MLAs were forged on a letter submitted to the Speaker of the West Bengal Assembly regarding the appointment of senior TMC leader Shovandeb Chattopadhyay as Leader of the House.
Following a complaint lodged by the Assembly Secretariat, the CID took over the investigation. The agency has already visited the residences of several TMC legislators and questioned party leaders, including Kunal Ghosh, as part of the probe.
