The Supreme Court will hear two separate petitions on Monday. It is alleged in these petitions that the police committed atrocities against the students who were protesting against the NEET paper leak and the resignation of the Education Minister. These petitions are related to the Parliament march of July 20, which was organized by the Cockroach Janata Party.
These petitions will be placed in the bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V Mohana. The bench headed by CJI had agreed to hear these petitions on July 24.
Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan had told the bench, “The police have used excessive force against the students.” Now the Supreme Court will hear these petitions and decide what further steps should be taken.
The most interesting aspect of this entire matter is that the matter will be heard only by the bench headed by CJI Surya Kant. Cockroach Janata Party was formed only after the CJI called the unemployed ‘cockroaches’ on 15 May. It was created by Abhijeet Deepke on 16 May.

Police-Rapid Action Force resorted to lathi charge, released tear gas shells and also resorted to stone pelting.

Cockroach Janata Party had taken out a march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament on 20 July. There were several clashes between the protesters and the police during the protest that lasted from 8 am to 5 pm.
Some protesters broke barricades and marched towards Parliament. These people had reached near Parliament from Jantar Mantar via Sansad Marg, Janpath Square, War Memorial, Dutva Path, Vijay Chowk.
These people had tried to enter the Parliament. After which the police had released tear gas shells. Pictures of stone pelting also surfaced late in the evening. More than 100 people were injured in this.
However, the police evacuated Jantar Mantar by 5 pm. But, at around 11 pm, CJP supporters reached Jantar Mantar and started protesting again.
Petition related to Cockroach Janata Party reached Supreme Court thrice before
1. For the first time – May 24, demand was – CBI should investigate the activities of those who made CJP.
Petitioner’s lawyer NK Goswami claimed that the CJP was tarnishing the image of the judiciary. However, the Supreme Court refused to hear this petition immediately. The bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice Vipul Pancholi said, ‘Don’t take it so emotionally.’
Apart from this, action was also demanded against commercialization of oral court statements given during proceedings in the Supreme Court. To this the CJI had replied- “There is no such serious emergency right now. Let’s see what happens.” Read the full news…
2. Second time – July 22, demand was – investigation into lathi charge on supporters of Cockrose Party.
A lawyer had filed a PIL before a three-judge bench headed by the CJI. During the hearing, the petitioner lawyer said- Students are raising important issues. But there are also videos of police brutality on them. If possible, the case should be heard soon.
On this CJI Surya Kant had said, ‘We are not interested in the video, we do not have time to watch it.’ When the lawyer requested for the second time to see the video of the assault on the students, the CJI said, ‘Don’t waste our time and yours.’ Read the full news…
3. Third time – 24th July, demand was – control on police is necessary, court is coming between us
This time the matter was taken up by senior advocate Gopal Shankaranarayanan. He told the court that two petitions related to police violence have been filed against the protesters. Many states are included as parties in these. These were not mentioned earlier because they were waiting for the diary number.
Gopal said, “The police are taking too much action against the children. This continues without any stop. Some control is necessary. The court is standing between us and the police.” After these arguments the CJI said, “Let it come in the listing, we will hear it.”

CJP’s protest lasted for 36 days, ended with Pradhan’s resignation
On May 15, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court made a cockroach comment regarding the unemployed. Cockroach Janata Party was formed against this on social media on 16 May. On June 6, its creator Abhijeet Deepke came to India. From June 20, protesters sat on strike at Jantar Mantar over the issue of NEET paper leak.
This movement, which lasted for 36 days, ended on July 25 after the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Announcing his resignation in a statement, Pradhan said, “The events of the last 10 days have deeply saddened him and this issue is not a matter of personal prestige.”
Apart from this, Sonam Wangchuk, who was on fast with the students, also ended her 26-day hunger strike after the government’s assurance. He will also be discharged from Medanta Hospital on Monday.
Two petitions have also been filed in Delhi High Court against the police action.
Earlier on July 22, the Delhi High Court had sought response from the Center and Delhi Police on two separate petitions alleging excessive use of force against the protesters during the march to Parliament on July 20.
The High Court had directed the authorities to preserve all necessary records related to the police action, including CCTV camera footage and any videography.
