A desperate attempt to save a teenage boy from harming himself turned into an unimaginable tragedy in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where the teenager and both his parents died within minutes of one another on Friday.
The incident took place at Khavdya Hills in the Tisgaon area, where the teenager had reportedly gone after an argument at home. Police identified the deceased as 19-year-old Kunal Chandgude, his father Murlidhar Chandgude, 48, and his mother Sangita Chandgude, residents of Zalta Phata.
Teen Goes To Hill After Family Dispute
According to reports, Kunal had asked his father for a new iPhone. His father, a driver and reportedly the family’s sole earning member, was unable to buy the phone amid financial constraints. Following the disagreement, Kunal reportedly left home and went towards the hill at around 10 am. His parents, worried about what he might do, followed him and attempted to talk him down. What began as a family trying to bring their son home soon turned into a major rescue operation, with villagers, police officers and fire brigade personnel joining the effort.
Three-Hour Rescue Effort Ends In Tragedy
Rescuers reportedly spent around three hours trying to get Kunal away from the edge. Firefighters attempted to position a safety net below, but the teenager kept moving along the steep section of the hill, making it difficult for them to safely reach him. Later, his father reportedly moved towards him in an attempt to calm him and persuade him to return. Police said Kunal then fell from the hill, while Murlidhar also fell while attempting to reach his son.
Sangita, who was nearby, witnessed the two fall. In the viral video, she can also been seen subsequently falling from the hill as well. The three family members died within minutes of each other.

The incident has also triggered emotional reactions online, with several people reflecting on the circumstances that could lead a young person and a family to such a devastating moment.
