Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior’s position has been described as ‘untenable’ with rumors that he can soon be out of the job.

Liam Rosenior is under mounting pressure at Chelsea FC following a 0-3 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, after which both he and the club ownership were booed by the traveling fans at the Amex Stadium. According to talkSPORTthe club’s board is now weighing its options after Chelsea slumped to a fifth consecutive Premier League defeat without scoring, a run not seen since 1912.
While the Stamford Bridge hierarchy had previously backed Rosenior and intended to assess him after a full season in charge next term, the recent downturn in results, along with growing frustration among supporters, has cast doubt over his position. The report described Rosenior’s position as ‘untenable’, saying the Englishman was now ‘fighting’ for his job.
It’s a damning twist of events for Chelsea, one that reflects poorly on Rosenior as much as the club ownership led by BlueCo — a consortium of Todd Boehly, Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter, and Hansjörg Wyss. Rosenior was brought to Chelsea from another BlueCo team, French side Strasbourg FC, and appointed mid-season as a replacement for Enzo Maresca.
Maresca had similarly divided the fanbase before his exit, but had kept the Blues in the top four of the table consistently. He was more experienced and tactically shrewd, often let down by the squad composition challenges despite Chelsea being among the biggest spenders in the league.
Rosenior has also dealt with injury troubles, but the timing has coincided with a more high-pressure time, with the club now left reeling at seventh, with a threat to fall into the bottom half before their next match.
That stress seemed to tell on the manager as well as his squad on Brighton, when he went on an all-mighty rant against some players, without taking names.
“I have defended the players at times when it was the correct thing but I can’t defend that performance. It doesn’t represent this football club, it doesn’t represent anything I ask from the group and that has to change,” he said. “I feel numb I’m so angry. I always speak on what I see and that was unacceptable. The goals we conceded were unacceptable and that is something I have to hold my hands up to. Tonight was not tactical. This was about desire, spirit, courage and I did not see enough of that.”
Chelsea’s owners have already incurred serious losses, and missing out on not just the Champions League but any European football of any kind would be a staggering blow. Chelsea face rivals Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday (April 26).
How much Chelsea may have to pay to sack Liam Rosenior
Chelsea FC could face a hefty compensation bill of up to £24million (Rs. 303 crore) if they part ways with Rosenior, who still has six years left on a £4million-per-season deal signed in January. While clauses in the contract may reduce the final payout, the figure would still place him among the costliest managerial exits in Premier League history.
