Government telecom company BSNL has launched a new satellite phone in India. Its price including tax has been kept at Rs 1,34,166. It is completely different from a regular smartphone, which works directly with the help of satellite instead of without SIM and network.

The biggest feature of the phone is that it allows making voice calls without any interruption even in network-less and off-grid areas, whereas commonly used phones work with the help of the nearest mobile tower. To buy a satellite phone, government approval will have to be taken.

Connectivity will be easy in case of emergency

The benefit of this phone will work even in those remote areas where mobile networks are not accessible. This will make it easier to maintain contact with people in disaster or emergency situations. The company said that this handset has been made in partnership with global satellite network provider ‘Inmarsat’.

Government permission is mandatory to buy

It will not be available directly at the shop like a common phone or gadget. There are strict rules regarding satellite phones in India. Before purchasing or using this phone, it will be mandatory for the user to obtain approval or authorization from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). Possessing or operating a satellite phone without government approval can lead to legal action under Indian laws.

This satellite phone of BSNL is not for everyday smartphone users. It is designed for people and organizations that need reliable communications in areas where there is no network.
