A bomb threat email sent to a school in Karnataka’s Mysuru sparked alarm among students and staff.
The Jnanasarovara International Residential School, located in Bhugatagalli village of Mysuru Taluk, received the threat today, warning of an explosion if action is not taken in connection with an alleged rape case in Hyderabad in 2023.
According to police sources, the anonymous message linked the bomb threat to a demand for justice in the rape case, claiming that failure to act would result in harm to children.
The email, titled “BOMB BLAST IN YOUR SCHOOL – Do Not Take this email lightly – Justice rape victim in Hyderabad”, was sent to the school’s official email ID and warned that only if students died would police take the case seriously. “Our intention is not to kill children, but to get justice, children should sacrifice their life,” the message read.
The sender demanded police action against a man named Divij, who they alleged raped a young woman at Lemon Tree Hotel in Hyderabad in 2023. The email accused Divij of being an “alcohol addict” and a “young girls addict,” and included phone numbers purportedly belonging to him and his parents.
It also alleged that Divij had taken the victim in his car after cancelling a cab she had booked, drugged her, raped her, and clicked nude photographs. The email further demanded that police check CCTV footage from the hotel, his travel history, and his bank statements.
The message claimed police had failed to investigate the case thoroughly and warned: “Only after the bomb blast will they investigate.”
The school administration filed a written complaint with the Mysuru Superintendent of Police. Further details are awaited as the probe continues.
This comes after a private school in Karnataka’s Udupi district received a bomb threat via email on Monday, prompting an immediate evacuation of students, police officials said.
An intensive search was conducted at the Vidyodaya Public School by a full team deployed by the Udupi police. The search operation involved the bomb disposal unit, an anti-sabotage squad, and canine detection teams. No suspicious object was found on the premises, according to the police.
The Udupi police later deemed the email to be a hoax.
