A glitch has surfaced in the software of American aircraft manufacturing company Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft. The issue is related to an update to the cockpit software. In a certain situation, this error can occur if the pilot changes the planned route of the aircraft after the first landing attempt fails.
Reuters gave this news quoting Wall Street Journal (WSJ). WSJ has obtained some documents from Boeing Company in which this information has been found.
Boeing said it had informed aircraft model 737 MAX operators about the problem last month. The software is being updated again to resolve this issue.
There are about 102 aircraft of this model in India. However, whether Indian aircraft are affected by this or not and how many aircraft have this problem. This information has not been revealed.
Two American airlines refuse to accept Boeing’s new aircraft
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also said it is aware of a possible problem in software updates of the flight computers of some Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The FAA has started an investigation in collaboration with Boeing and airlines.
According to the report, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines have requested Boeing to deliver aircraft with older software versions instead of receiving new 737 MAX aircraft with the affected software.
At present it is not clear how many aircraft have this software. Boeing, airlines and regulators are investigating the problem and assessing its potential impact on flight safety.
Three airlines in India have around 100 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft
Air India Express: Air India reported in January 2026 that it had received 51 Boeing 737-8s, which were in service with Air India Express. Acasa Air: As of August 2026, Akasa had 40 Boeing 737 MAX. SpiceJet: The company has a small 737 MAX fleet in available fleet data. The company had set a target of 11 MAX by the end of 2025.
