In Gujarat’s Dehgam village, BJP leader Shakil Malek and his father Khalid Malek allegedly cut water after poll loss, supply was restored after 4 days

News18
In a shocking incident from Bharuch district, a village was left without water for several days following the outcome of local body elections, allegedly out of spite after a political defeat. According to reports, Shakil Malek, a BJP candidate who contested the panchayat elections from the Kavi-2 seat in Jambusar taluka, lost to AAP candidate Sohail Malek.
Following the defeat, Shakil Malek and his father Khalid Malek are accused of cutting off the water supply to Dehgam village.
Dehgam, a village with a population of nearly 10,000, reportedly faced a complete disruption in water supply starting April 28—the same day election results were declared for the April 26 polls. Notably, Khalid Malek is said to head the local committee responsible for managing the village’s water supply.
As per a report by the The Indian Express, district police took both Khalid Malek and his son into custody on Saturday. However, they were later released on bail.
The water crisis continued for four days before authorities stepped in. Following police intervention, supply to the village was restored on Friday evening, bringing relief to residents.
The incident has raised serious concerns over misuse of local authority and the impact of political disputes on basic civic amenities. Officials are expected to further examine the matter.
