Lando Norris has hit a purple patch at the perfect time. But, when you’re being hunted by Max Verstappen, you can’t afford to take your foot off the pedal till you cross the finish line.
The Red Bull Racing ace has warned that he will attack the Las Vegas Grand Prix with “nothing to lose,” as the four-time World Champion attempts to keep his fading title hopes alive against McLaren’s Lando Norris.
Verstappen, 49 points behind Norris with only 58 available after Vegas, must outscore the Briton to avoid McLaren locking in an all-orange title duel between Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri for the final two rounds. Norris can eliminate Verstappen from contention if he extends the gap by nine points on Saturday night.
But Verstappen has no intention of going quietly.
“We will try and perform as best we can and keep pushing as we have nothing to lose,” he said, pointing to the high-speed, low-downforce nature of the Vegas circuit and the expected cooler temperatures that will put tyre management at a premium.
Norris, chasing his third straight win and his 150th F1 start, arrives as the in-form driver with victories in Mexico and Brazil — and six consecutive finishes ahead of Piastri.
Yet he knows Verstappen remains a threat.
“Max will be a threat because he always is,” Norris said. “He’s always there, he’s always fighting.”
McLaren has already wrapped up a second straight constructors’ title and has won 14 of 21 races this season, but Verstappen’s fighting stance ensures the title race still has one more spark heading into Sin City.
