Bayern Munich produced a dominant second-half display to beat Bodo-Glimt 5-0 at home in the Champions League on Thursday, with Jamal Musiala marking his return to the starting lineup with the opening goal. Michael Olise scored twice, while Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies also found the net as the six-time European champions turned a stubborn contest into a rout after the break.
Musiala had missed two matches after revealing that he was dealing with a neurological condition that had caused him to collapse during two of Bayern‘s pre-season friendlies. His return to the XI was one of three changes made by coach Vincent Kompany from the side that drew 0-0 at Schalke on Saturday, with Kane and Olise also coming back into the lineup.
Bayern struggled to break down Bodo’s deep defensive setup during a frustrating first half. The Norwegian side, who reached the last 16 of last season’s Champions League, defended resolutely and limited the hosts’ opportunities.
The breakthrough came shortly after the restart. Kane’s effort was blocked, but Musiala reacted quickly to the loose ball and sent his finish into the far corner, prompting an emotional celebration with his teammates.
Kane doubled Bayern’s advantage just after the hour mark, heading an Olise free-kick into the net. The goal also extended the England captain’s remarkable Champions League scoring streak to eight consecutive matches.
From there, Bayern took complete control. Davies made it 3-0 with a powerful long-range strike with 13 minutes remaining before Olise produced a spectacular finish six minutes later, curling a shot from 25 yards into the top-left corner.
The France winger completed his brace in stoppage time, putting the finishing touch on a commanding second-half performance.
The victory also extended Bayern’s extraordinary record in Champions League opening matches. The Bavarian club have now won 24 consecutive games in their first Champions League fixture of a campaign, a run stretching back to 2002.
Bodo’s night ended on a further sour note when Odin Bjortuft was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul with three minutes remaining, capping a difficult final phase for the visitors.
