Rain has worsened difficulties in the hilly state of Uttarakhand. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “Orange Alert” for heavy rainfall in four major districts, including Dehradun and Nainital. In Uttar Pradesh, schools and colleges in Meerut and Ghaziabad have been affected by closures linked to the Kanwar Yatra. Authorities had ordered educational institutions in the two districts to remain closed through August 12 amid arrangements for the annual pilgrimage and expected movement of devotees. Meanwhile, Telangana has also seen district-level school closure orders during the ongoing monsoon period. Recent reports indicate that schools in several districts have faced closures or changes in working hours, with local authorities taking decisions based on weather and ground conditions. The next major holidays listed in several official calendars include Independence Day on August 15, followed by Milad-un-Nabi on August 26 and Raksha Bandhan on August 28.
