In October last year, it was announced to lay off 14,000 employees.
The world’s largest e-commerce company Amazon on Wednesday announced the layoff of 16,000 more employees. This is part of the restructuring process that started in October last year.
At that time the company had talked about eliminating 14,000 posts, but now the total layoff figure has increased to 30,000.
Company wants to reduce layers of management
Amazon Senior Vice President Beth Galetti said in a statement that the purpose of these job cuts is to reduce layers of management, increase responsibility and eliminate bureaucracy within the company. The company wants its employees to make faster decisions and increase their ability to innovate for customers.

Biggest layoff after 2023
This is the biggest cut in Amazon after the layoff of 27,000 employees in 2022-2023 after the Corona epidemic. According to media reports, this layoff will mainly affect Amazon’s corporate and office employees.
Amazon has about 3.5 lakh office employees worldwide, out of which about 10% i.e. 30,000 people will lose their jobs. However, the company has made it clear that this cut will have no impact on the 15 lakh employees working in its warehouse and distribution network.
Changed strategy due to investment in AI
When news of layoffs first came in October, the company had refused to comment on it. Experts say that Amazon is now rapidly increasing its investment in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company is adjusting its workforce accordingly.
On Wednesday, the company said that each team will continuously evaluate its capabilities and changes will be made where needed.
Annual results will be released on 6 February
Amazon has not yet clarified how many people will be removed from which department. The company will present its full year financial results on 6 February 2025. During this time, more information regarding layoffs and future plans can be given through a live conference call.
