Tamil Nadu’s Social Welfare Minister P Geeta Jeevan strongly condemned the comment, saying Shanmugam had insulted women by comparing them to free things. They don’t deserve to be called human beings.

BJP had joined hands with AIADMK in April

In the same year, Home Minister Amit Shah had announced the alliance of BJP and AIADMK in Chennai. He had said that the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 2026 will be fought under the leadership of AIADMK chief E Palaniswami. The distribution of seats will be decided later after discussion.
Shah said that AIADMK has no demand regarding the alliance, nor will BJP interfere in their internal affairs. The party’s joining NDA is very beneficial for both.
Shah said- The next election will be fought on the basis of DMK government’s corruption, atrocities on Dalits and women. People are demanding answers from DMK on scams, people will vote on these issues in the elections.
In September 2023, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) broke away from the NDA due to some comments made by the then Tamil Nadu chief Annamalai.
In the last elections, AIADMK-BJP alliance got only 75 seats. AIADMK ruled Tamil Nadu for two consecutive terms (2011-2021). In the last assembly elections held in 2021, DMK had won 159 out of the total 234 seats in the state. At the same time, AIADMK was reduced to only 66 seats. BJP got 2 seats and other parties got 7 seats.
After DMK’s victory, MK Stalin became the Chief Minister of the state. On the other hand, due to some comments of State BJP President Annamalai, the AIADMK and BJP alliance broke on September 25, 2023.
